TINUBU FLAGS OFF LAGOS-IBADAN ROAD EXPANSION & BENIN-SHAGAMU EXPRESSWAY PROJECTS: A NEW ERA IN NIGERIA’S INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Lagos, Nigeria – The Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group (AATSG) extends its deepest appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Honorable Minister of Works, and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for their visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s infrastructural transformation. Today, we celebrate a major milestone in national development with the flag-off of the completed and ongoing 24-kilometer section of the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway and the imminent launch of the additional 48-kilometer stretch along the critical Lagos-Sagamu corridor.
A PILLAR OF THE RENEWED HOPE AGENDA
The Lagos-Ibadan road expansion is a flagship project under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to accelerate economic growth and improve mobility across the country. This strategic initiative is not merely about constructing roads; it represents a comprehensive effort to connect rural communities with urban centers, commercial hubs, and industrial corridors—thereby unlocking Nigeria’s vast resource potential and spurring regional development. The enhanced connectivity will facilitate smoother trade flows, reduce travel times, and ultimately lower the cost of doing business.
PROJECT DETAILS & PHASED IMPLEMENTATION
The project is being executed in two key phases:
• Phase One: Encompassing the 24-kilometer section, which has already shown significant progress. This segment forms the backbone of the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway, strengthening the link between Lagos and its adjoining regions.
• Phase Two: A vital 48-kilometer extension from Iperu to Ijebu Ode along the Sagamu-Ore route, poised to further bolster regional connectivity. Despite encountering procurement challenges—particularly with the second leg—the government has acted swiftly. The procurement process is being reinitiated with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), and a resolution is expected within 30 days, ensuring that work will commence without undue delay.
Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, underscored the multifaceted nature of this project: “Our efforts extend beyond laying asphalt. The installation of critical structures such as the Ogun River bridge, Marlboro, Wawa, and Arepo underpasses, the RCC Church interchange, flyovers, and pedestrian bridges are all pivotal in enhancing safety and easing traffic congestion.” These infrastructural elements are integral to transforming the regional transport network and are indicative of the broader improvements being implemented nationwide.
VISION FOR ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION
President Tinubu, as reiterated by his representative Governor Dapo Abiodun, emphasized the indispensable role of infrastructure in national development. Citing renowned architect Norman Foster, the President remarked, “Infrastructure is much more than roads and bridges; it is the foundation that sustains economic growth, facilitates mobility, and enhances the quality of life.” This statement encapsulates the government’s vision—one where infrastructural advancements pave the way for socioeconomic upliftment and provide a robust platform for business, trade, and community development.
IMPACT ON NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The comprehensive expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan road and the Benin-Shagamu expressway is set to revolutionize transportation across one of Nigeria’s most pivotal corridors. Enhanced road connectivity is expected to:
• Spur local and regional economic activities.
• Create employment opportunities during and after construction.
• Attract domestic and foreign investments by reducing logistical challenges.
• Promote sustainable development through improved access to markets, education, and healthcare facilities.
A CALL TO ACTION
The Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group remains resolute in its support of the Federal Government’s infrastructural initiatives. We urge all stakeholders, including contractors, regulatory agencies, and local communities, to collaborate closely to ensure these projects are executed with excellence and efficiency. It is through such collective efforts that Nigeria can secure a prosperous future and a dynamic, interconnected economy.
In conclusion, the flag-off of these transformative road projects is a testament to our government’s dedication to progress and innovation. As Nigeria embarks on this new era of infrastructural revitalization, we stand united in the belief that improved mobility and connectivity will drive the nation toward unprecedented economic growth and social development.
