The president must take a National Emergency on the issue of fake known brands in Nigeria
In Nigeria the production of fake known branded products is now a National epidemic. This is as a result of the current research carried out across the country by AAADo Consulting Ltd and AATSG. If this is not addressed immediately the beverage and distillery in Nigeria would be at great risk.
Should culprits of fake products not also be facing at least manslaughter charges given the effect of their actions on health of unsuspecting consumers ! This is complicity in several deaths/failed health..
During the conversations directors of a renowned beverage and distillery company, they said they have always prided themselves on providing high-quality, authentic products to consumers in Nigeria . However, in recent years, they have been horrified to discover that the market has been inundated with counterfeit versions of their beloved brands. These fake products not only pose a threat to their brand, reputation and bottom line, but more importantly, they endanger the health and well-being of unsuspecting consumers.
The production of fake known branded products has become a national epidemic, and it is high time that the culprits behind these criminal operations are held accountable for their actions. In our eyes, those responsible for creating and distributing counterfeit goods should be facing severe consequences, including potential manslaughter charges. After all, their actions have directly led to the deterioration of the health and in some cases, the deaths of innocent individuals.
When someone purchases a fake version of known products, they are often unaware that they are consuming potentially harmful substances. These counterfeit products are not held to the same rigorous quality and safety standards as our authentic offerings, putting consumers at risk of ingesting toxic chemicals or harmful contaminants. In some instances, individuals have suffered from severe illnesses and even death as a result of consuming counterfeit beverages and spirits. This cannot be overlooked or dismissed as a mere inconvenience; it is a matter of life and death.
I am in agreement with the directors and these manufacturers that takes pride in there commitment to consumer safety and satisfaction, and we refuse to standby idly while criminal organizations exploit known brands and jeopardize the well-being of unsuspecting public.
It is for this reason that we are calling for the enforcement of stricter penalties for those involved in the production and distribution of fake products. It is not enough to simply seize and destroy counterfeit goods; the individuals responsible for these reprehensible actions must face serious legal repercussions.
We believe that charging these culprits with manslaughter is not an overreaction, but rather a necessary means of holding them accountable for the harm they have caused. When someone knowingly engages in the production and sale of counterfeit goods, they are complicit in putting the lives of innocent consumers at risk. It is no different than someone who knowingly sells tainted food or drugs, and they should be prosecuted accordingly.
Furthermore, stricter penalties for those involved in the production of counterfeit goods would serve as a deterrent for others who may be considering similar criminal activities. By demonstrating that there are severe consequences for these actions, we can help to prevent further harm to consumers and protect the integrity of manufactured brands in our country Nigeria.
In addressing the national epidemic of fake known branded products, it is imperative that we all take a stand against those who seek to profit from the deception and endangerment of others. I urge lawmakers and law enforcement agencies to prioritize the prosecution of those involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit goods, and to consider the devastating impact that their actions have on the health and safety of unsuspecting consumers.
We cannot allow these individuals to continue to operate with impunity; they must be held accountable for their crimes. Only then can we begin to mitigate the harm caused by this disturbing trend and ensure the protection of consumers nationwide.
